OUR NEED
On March 2, the BCHS was delighted with the provincial government’s announcement supporting the multi-million dollar redevelopment, expansion and renovation of the Emergency Department at the Brant Community Healthcare System, Brantford General site. As part of the redevelopment, the Emergency Department will be enhanced to include new entrances, and renovations will be completed to improve visibility for patients and staff and ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.
The project will add 371 square metres of space and renovate an existing 288 square metres of space in the department. This expansion and partial renovation represents the first phase of work on the hospital’s Emergency Department.
The government has not announced an exact dollar figure on the project to protect the tendering process moving forward. It is known that the ED project has been approved under a program that is capped at $10 million.
The provincial government uses a 90/10 cost-share funding model and the BCHS Foundation will be required to cover the later share. In addition, it is expected that there will also be a need for new and replacement equipment to be utilized in the new space.
The Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation needs to raise in excess of $3 million in support of this exciting project
These funds will support the redevelopment of the Emergency Department as well as help us continue to put the technology and tools in the hands of our physicians and staff caring for our patients. Your investment will help to keep our local healthcare system strong.
The purchase of new and replacement medical equipment is not covered by Ontario’s healthcare funding model. This is why we turn to the community to help us bridge this funding gap.
The BCHS is currently finalizing their patient equipment needs for our Emergency Department, but we anticipate BCHS Foundation funding requirements could reach as high as $5 million
