The Sam Rizzo MRI: Refurbished and open for business!
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) technology has been installed at the BCHS since Sept. 4, 2007 thanks to the tremendous support of our generous donors and the leadership of the Rizzo family.
After helping to diagnose over 58,000 patients, the MRI has reached its ten-year anniversary of service, and as with all highly specialized medical hardware, the many technological supports associated with diagnostic imaging have a 7 to 10-year lifespan.
A new MRI would have been an investment in excess of $2.2 million, but fortunately, the 1.5 Tesla magnet in our current MRI is in strong working order and is anticipated to have another 10 years of serviceable life.
In August 2017, the MRI underwent a renovation to outfit it with a completely refurbished camera and component set coupled with a software upgrade enabling clearer images for more enhanced and accurate patient diagnostics at a cost of $850,000.
On Sept. 12 an invitational event was held to celebrate the re-opening of the refurbished MRI attended by members of the Rizzo family and supporting donors who have contributed to maintaining this valuable diagnostic tool for our community.
Thank you so much for your help, generosity and support!
