J. Crawford Reid, In Memoriam
We are saddened to share that the Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) and Foundation has lost a dear friend, champion, and advocate, Mr. J. Crawford Reid.
Crawford’s history with the BCHS spanned several decades, and it’s impossible to walk the halls without seeing a space where his volunteerism had positive impact.
From 1983-1985 Crawford served as Chair of the Brantford General Hospital (BGH) Board of Directors. During his tenure, the BGH expanded the Emergency Department, and added the then ‘new’ A-Wing Entrance.
After completing his term on the BGH Board of Directors, Crawford joined the BGH Foundation Board, where he remained a member for almost a decade.
In 1998, Crawford along with his Co-Chair George Campbell, was a fundraising powerhouse and led the Caring for Health Campaign, raising $11.2 million in a record 3 years. This Campaign facilitated the construction of and patient equipment purchases for the D-Wing building, which opened in 2004.
Crawford’s heartfelt commitment to the BGH continued when he returned to the BGH Foundation Board in 2004, serving as Chair from 2008 to 2010.
Mr. Reid’s commitment to healthcare in our community saw him actively participate in fundraising campaigns for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Family Birthing Centre, Diagnostic Imaging as well as the Gamma Camera.
Crawford was not only a tireless champion for healthcare, he also actively participated in several other community causes, including the Grand River Conservation Authority and Rotary Club of Brantford.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Reid family for their loss, and we will remain grateful to Crawford as his legacy lives on in our health system.
Peter Quinlan, Chair, BCHS Board of Directors and Dr. Lee Ferrao, Chair, BCHS Foundation Board of Directors
