A renewed Emergency Department is underway at the Brantford General Hospital – Together, we can make it possible!
The Emergency Department (ED) Improvement Project is a 32,000 square foot interior and exterior renovation of the existing Emergency Department at the Brantford General site. Construction is now underway and will take 3.5 years to fully complete.
Over 58,000 people from our community and surrounding areas need the ED annually and an investment in this space and new patient equipment is critically needed to serve our rapidly growing patient population.
The ED Improvement Project is a 32,000 square foot interior and exterior renovation of the existing Emergency Department at the Brantford General site. This work will include:
- adding almost 10,000 sq. ft of new space
- a new walk-in entrance
- renovation of patient entry, waiting, triage and registration areas
- renovation of the Extended Stay Area
- development of a new See & Treat area
- addition of an Indigenous Healing Lodge
The ED will remain open and operational throughout the construction period to serve our community in their times of greatest need.
In July 2023, the ED project entered “Stage 3 – Construction” when the Ontario Government invested over $28 million into the project. The BCHS Foundation is responsible for raising in excess of $8 million to cover 10% of construction costs and the purchase of medical equipment and furnishings for the space. We have raised 6.2 million towards this project and are in the final stretch of the fundraising needed to make a renewed Emergency Department a reality for our community.
These are exciting times for healthcare in our community and we need your help now to transform our emergency department and invest in critically needed patient equipment for the new space. Please, make a gift today! Thanks to the generosity of Mott Manufacturing each donation made in support of our 2023 “Hope for Healthcare” campaign will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to a total of $100,000!
