Government of Canada announces extension of 2024 charitable donations
The Department of Finance announced via a news release on December 30, 2024 that to mitigate the impacts of the four-week Canada Post mail stoppage, the federal government intends to amend the Income Tax Act to extend the deadline for making donations eligible for tax support in the 2024 tax year.
The proposed legislation, if passed, would extend the deadline for claiming donations made on your 2024 income tax return until February 28, 2025.
