Board and Beyond – Spotlight on our Board of Directors

featuring Lisa Ligori, Treasurer, BCHS Foundation Board of Directors
Lisa is a first-generation Canadian, with both sides of her family having immigrated from different parts of Italy. She was born and raised in Brantford and continues to live in this community that she loves.
Lisa is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and deals mainly with budgets, forecasts and financial analysis. She also loves to travel, enjoys quirky roadside attractions, and is compelled to read every historical plaque she encounters.
What motivated you to join the Board of Directors, and what excites you most about being a part of this organization?
Years ago, a family member had fallen ill and was hospitalized. During the time I spent in the hospital with them I witnessed the professionalism and dedication of so many healthcare professionals and support staff. I was considering a volunteer opportunity, and when I saw a request from the BCHS Foundation for board members it was an easy decision to apply. At some point in our lives, either we ourselves or a loved one will need the services our hospital provides. I’m excited to help ensure that the infrastructure and equipment are available to the hospital staff to deliver top quality care.
What is your favourite snack?
I try to eat healthy, but I have a real weakness for Cool Ranch Doritos.
What are some goals you hope to achieve during your time on the Board? What was/is important for you do do while you serve on the Board?
My focus has largely been related to ensuring the Board has the necessary understanding of our current financial position and longer-term forecasts to support making appropriate resource allocation decisions. Given that board members have a limited term, I have also worked on maintaining some records that can be passed along to maintain continuity between boards from a financial perspective.
What would surprise us to learn about you?
I have walked across a desert. It’s the smallest desert in the world, but I did cross it.
What values or principles do you live by, and how do you see them influencing your work with the Board?
I believe that everyone has special skills and value to offer. I also feel strongly that we can disagree but can still demonstrate respect to one another. With this in mind, I encourage fellow Board members to share opinions and ideas so that we can all benefit from their unique perspectives and experiences
What do you love about our community?
Even with the explosion of growth in Branford and Brant County, it still feels like a small town to me. I love that it’s a community I feel safe to live in. I love the trails and options for outdoor activities. I love the diversity of the community and the opportunities we have to celebrate that diversity. And I love that we have so many kind and generous people living here.
