Meet Tammy Milmine, a personal support worker with the Transitional Care team at the Willett. Tammy has served as a PSW for more than a decade. She joined BCHS two years ago and, as a natural caregiver with a big heart, Tammy is passionate about assisting patients with their daily living needs.
“I love spending time with seniors and listening to their stories,” Tammy said. “I get the opportunity to do this in my role as a PSW.”
The Willett is well known to the community for providing urgent care services, and the site is also home to a 32-bed transitional care unit for adults who do not need acute care in hospital, but still need support and care while they recuperate.
“This is an important service for people in our community,” said Tammy. “Transitional care programs ensure that patients who need special care can continue to get the support they need and give their families peace of mind.”
On a typical day, Tammy provides assistance for up to 15 patients during a normal shift. “There are never any quiet days on the transitional care unit. I am proud to be part of an amazing team – we are all focused on providing the very best care to our patients.”
BCHS is fortunate to have Tammy as part of our exceptional team. She was nominated recently by her colleagues and received a ‘Covid-19 Hero’ award recognizing the care she provides to patients. Her nominator shared that ‘Tammy has gone above and beyond her workload during the pandemic to make sure patients are getting outside for a breath of fresh air. COVID-19 has kept patients inside for a long period of time and Tammy helps make their days brighter.’
Thank you Tammy for the important work you are doing at the Transitional Care Unit to support our community!
