Meet Pam Axisa, a dedicated Registered Nurse at the Brant Community Healthcare System who has been working in the Emergency Department at the BGH for 12 years. Pam has been leading the See & Treat Area of the ED since 2017 and was part of the team who designed and opened this unique space to help improve wait times.
“The See and Treat Area focuses on those patients who present with medical emergencies that can be assessed, treated and discharged in under four hours, saving the beds in the ED for those who really need them” said Pam. “Our area is located right across the hall from the ED which provides patients with a quieter, private space for treatment. Our team sees a wide range of medical emergencies across a diverse population, so we need to always be organized, adaptable and ready. I am proud to be part of such a wonderful family of physicians and nurses who work together to provide quality care and high patient satisfaction”.
As part of the $7 million ED redevelopment project, the See and Treat Area will be expanded to create additional rooms that are larger to allow for such enhanced procedures as sedation and casting. “This will help us provide continuous care to our patients in the same space. It is really an exciting time to see the Emergency Department developing to reflect and meet our growing community needs” said Pam. “I’m so happy to be a part of it”.
Brant Community Healthcare System is fortunate to have Pam as part of our exceptional staff team! She was recently nominated by her colleagues and received a ‘Thumbs Up’ award in recognition of her leadership skills. Her nominator shared that Pam is greatly appreciated by her team because she always takes the time to teach in a considerate way ensuring other staff feel confident. A born educator, Pam is inspiring the next generation of hospital caregivers by mentoring co-op students placed in the ED. Thank you Pam!
