Meet Nancy Peddle, Manager of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) at Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS). The safety and health of patients is top priority for BCHS. Nancy and her small but mighty team of four work hard to identify and reduce the risk of health care related infections.
“We conduct surveillance to prevent infections, review lab reports and provide education about infection prevention and control for staff, patients and visitors,” said Nancy. “We collaborate with other programs and services at the hospital and outside organizations to build local expertise.”
The IPAC team works to identify and reduce the risk of infections that may include antibiotic resistant staphbacterial infections, E-coli, Clostridium difficile, the flu and COVID-19.
Nancy graduated as a medical laboratory technologist and has specialized training in infection control. She joined BCHS two years ago to lead the
IPAC team.
“I am honoured to be part of a community hospital where we work so strongly as a team, and I am proud of how our team has come together to manage the COVID-19 crisis. We address hand hygiene, wearing masks, assist in explaining why a patient might be in isolation or how a patient may have acquired the infection.”
The IPAC team’s work is key to prevention – they work daily at BCHS to maintain processes and make sure safety precautions are in place to reduce the risk of infection for patients, visitors, employees and volunteers.
Brant Community Healthcare System is fortunate to have Nancy as part of its exceptional staff team! She was recently nominated by her colleagues and
received a ‘Thumbs Up’ employee recognition award for her ongoing efforts throughout the pandemic. According to her nominator, “Nancy has tirelessly led the team within the ever-changing environment related to COVID-19. She is positive, motivating and always supportive of everyone, ensuring they stay informed about the current processes.” Thank you Nancy!
