Position Summary:

The Community Development Assistant is a key member of the BCHS Foundation team, providing expertise in the planning, co-ordination and implementation of special events, at both strategic and delivery levels. This role is responsible for maximizing fundraising revenue through engaging, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding all events to benefit the BCHS Foundation. This front-line support position is a positive, helpful and informed representative to our external and internal communities; including donors, visitors, hospital personnel, Board members and community leaders.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate University Degree or College Diploma or equivalent in fundraising, communications, commerce, or a related discipline, or a combination of experience/training
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and meet critical deadlines
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Outgoing, enthusiastic, confident, professional with a warm disposition
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Knowledge and experience in a non-profit an asset
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Ability to work within Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign considered an asset.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, co-ordinate and execute premier annual fundraising events that maximize revenue and exposure, build and strengthen community relationships and partnerships, diversify participation and broaden community engagement.
  • Develop and manage individual event budgets and ensure total event revenue and expenses meet or exceed expectations.
  • Brief team, committee, and volunteers on responsibilities and event flow in a timely and effective manner.
  • Plan and execute all event logistics including location, signage, décor, food service arrangements guest lists, menu planning, set-up, entertainment, etc.
  • Secure appropriate permits and licensing for fundraising events when needed.
  • Identify and solicit prospects for sponsors and in-kind donations for Foundation events to maximize revenue generation and provide cost-containment strategies.
  • Personal and timely stewardship/recognition to participants, sponsors, volunteers, stakeholders and internal staff to communicate success of event and express our appreciation.
  • Maintain third party event relationships and identify new third part events for growth potential.
  • Develop goals and objectives for special event committees, facilitate meetings and lead volunteer committees toward successfully completing established goals and objectives.
  • Recruit and steward engaged and committed volunteers for committees, building strong relationships and networks that will benefit the goals and objectives of the BCHS Foundation.
  • Develop and prepare sponsorship packages and communication materials.
  • Front line exemplary customer service, including interacting and providing timely and friendly follow-up to all donors, visitors, hospital and medical staff, Board, volunteers and external community.
  • Assisting other members of the staff team and helping with special projects of events, as assigned.
