Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada and Toys “R” Us Canada donate to BCHS Foundation

Thank you to Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada and Toys “R” Us Canada for your generous donation.

On Sept. 28, 2018, the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation celebrated a $2,000 donation from Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada and our local Toys “R” Us Canada (Brantford, Ontario) store – Branch 2468.
Each year, Toys “R” Us Canada employees and customers raise funds through the sale of Starlight Stars in-store and online. This is the tenth year for the grant tour, which has distributed over $1M to hospitals across Canada since its inception.

This year’s generous donation will be used to benefit paediatric patients at the BCHS Diabetic Education Clinic.

The BCHS Paediatric Diabetes Education team sees approximately 90 regional children with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes through initial diagnosis to the time they transition into our adult program. The team consists of a Paediatrician, a Registered Nurse educator, a Registered Dietitian and a Social Worker who supply extensive education and guidance to children with diabetes, their families and secondary care providers.

This donation will be used to add children’s furniture, colouring books, crayons and markers to the Diabetes Education Clinic allowing children to be creative and occupied. There is also a need for interactive devices and toys to allow educators to help our paediatric patients learn how to count carbohydrates to assist in diabetes management, and to be used as tools to discuss treatment plans with parents or care providers.

Together we are transforming healthcare in our community!
